Hello and welcome. I’m Malcolm Oakley, born in Essex at the very early 1970s, so at the time of writing this opening sentence, I’m in my 40 somethings. An age I’m very happy with. I hope my words and photos will motivate you into walking more often, perhaps a longer evening stroll or a weekend hike along the coast.
Walking changes your view of the world, just looking down on my home village from the South Downs ridge makes me realise how important nature and the outdoors is.
I grew up in Essex and suburban London, good fun. Out on my bicycle for hours on end. A large park nearby and a small but close family who also enjoyed a trip to the beach as often as possible; essential occupation for a young boy.
I’ve travelled much of Southern England, having lived here on and off for most of my life so far. I was fortunate to spend a couple of years living near the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland and also for a time, I lived in Girvan Scotland. Plenty of coast and hills to keep me happy.
I started this blog in December 2014, just a few days before Christmas. I wanted to share my walks, photos and words with you. I tend to walk where my mind takes me; I’ll pick up my map and have a look and see what direction my “mood” wants to take me.
Might be a walk along the coastal cliffs, to blow the cobwebs and germs away; could be a walk in the woods, talking to the birds and squirrels (my other-half said I mustn’t mention talking to the animals too much!)
I look forward to having you along for the journey. Your comments on the blog posts are most welcome and if you would like to get in contact with me, please use contact form below.
Please do get in touch if you would like to join me for a walk, or perhaps you have an outdoor business interest that you would like to discuss
I am always looking for new adventures outdoors, it’s what life is all about. Now, I had better get writing some words! Where shall we start walking?
